Questions

How Do Annulment and Divorce Differ?
Answer
While both annulment and divorce act to terminate a marriage, they have striking differences. An annulment works to nullify a marriage; legally, it’s as if it never happened. Divorce, on the other hand, can have lasting legal implications which may affect spouses for years to come.
-
Can an Annulment Be Denied if both Spouses Agree?
Answer
Yes. It is not enough for both parties to agree to an annulment. For an annulment to be granted by a court, a marriage must meet at least one of several specific requirements. If this is not the case, spouses may be left to explore other legal options such as a divorce.
-
How Long Will it Take to Get an Annulment?
Answer
Frustratingly, there is no simple answer to this question. If the annulment is uncontested, the process can be relatively quick. However, if one party disputes the motion, it can add a substantial amount of time to the process. To learn more about your specific situation, do not hesitate to contact our law firm.
